At Katandra West Primary School, we believe in running programs that provide children with the foundations for achievement and social-emotional well being in school, work and the world of tomorrow. We offer programs that target student improvement and support/wellbeing. Programs we facilitate include:
As part of the Victorian Curriculum, Katandra West Primary School provides a language program. The Languages curriculum aims to develop students’ ability to communicate in a second language, but also their understanding of themselves as language learners in Australia, one of the world’s most multicultural countries. At Katandra West Primary School, the language taught is Italian. Through examining the similarities and differences between the languages and cultures of Italy and Australia, students learn to embrace cultural and linguistic diversity.
Students participate in different learning styles such as songs, games, speaking and listening, reading and writing tasks, role-plays and digital technologies. To further promote the language, the school community is informed regularly of the language topics the students are learning through the newsletter. On Italian Day, language and culture is promoted with activities, games, craft and visiting artists and guests where the whole school participates and students work in mixed ages groups.
Alongside teaching the Victorian Curriculum through such programs, we provide many extra-curricula activities such as Camps, Swimming program, Chess Club, Athletics, Cross Country, Bike Education, Life Education, Visiting Performances and an annual concert.
